Frequently asked questions:
We have a couple of team members with physical limitations – wheelchair, for example – can they participate?
Absolutely! Everyone in the program needs to have a full range of motion in their upper body. If they have that, we can work with them.
Are we using real swords and weapons?
SWORDPLAY FOR SUITS uses practice “ball-tip” weapons, like those used for fencing classes and other teaching applications. No sharp blades, no pointy-ended swords.
This still sounds like it could be pretty dangerous. Is it safe?
Yes. A significant portion of the first hour is a safety discussion. Guidelines are given regarding what can and cannot be done, and we stick to those. If someone is performing in an unsafe manner, they are warned. If they misbehave a second time, they are sent to the sidelines. We take safety very seriously, and will not tolerate anyone behaving outside the accepted limits.
Will we have to sign any sort of waiver?
Yes. Everyone participating in the program will need to sign a waiver that they have been given safety guidelines, that they understand the guidelines, and that they will adhere to them.
You say that you divide everyone into pairs. My team is 15 people. Can we still participate?
Teams of two are best, but with a little added instruction, we can always create one team of three.
What do we wear?
Something comfortable that you can move and sweat in. Nothing baggy or loose. You don’t want to snag your sword on the clothes of your opponent! Basic work-out attire is great. Long pants are better than shorts, just based on the fact that you’ll probably fall down at least once during the course of the session. Comfortable athletic shoes are a must. No dangly or hoop earrings; minimal jewelry. Long hair should be tied back.
You said that we’ll all be performing at the end. Will we be video-taped?
If you want to be. We can video tape the entire session or just the performances. Ask us about cost when you book your session.
What do we get at the end of the session?
Every person will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the session. About two weeks after the session, the team will receive copies of the group photo as well as special “Swordplay for Suits” lapel pins to show off their accomplishment.
